Whats his deal does he like me?

Sometimes when my guy friend wants to hang out he will make plans with me but then ditches me. He has done it twice so far and both times he later apologizes and gives some sort of excuse. At times I think that he may like me more than a friend but then he does stupid stuff. For instance, when we are together he is really nice to me, knows if something is wrong, does me favors, tells me that even though he doesn’t show it all that often he thinks im awesome, laughed and acted surprised when I joked and said “you hate me”, wants to hang out and makes plans, tells me to call him if I want to do something, texts me, borrowed a pair of my sweatpants when he was over my house, came over to watch a movie, gives me advice, remembers small details about me, gave me the first cd he made, slept over with other people. My question is why he seems so sweet sometimes and then acts like a jerk? Does he like me? Do you think that he just thinks of me as a close friend?
